Chain of Events

So, it's been awhile. A lot has happened in the past 6+ months.

My last blog post was on February 10. My birthday. Two days after that, my grandfather passed away. The day after his funeral in PA (via Columbus, OH), I went to Baltimore to participate in the ACC Show as part of their brand new Hip Pop Program for emerging artists. Four days after I got back to NC after Baltimore, I moved back to PA in the middle of one of the worst winters in my short memory.  Three days after that, I started my new job at Brockway Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT).

Some other things happened before all that. Some other things have happened since then. Some good, some not so good. Some hard, some sad. And here it is August already. I've been though my first Youth Summer Program, two big field trips, my first adult class, and four art receptions. School is starting. Our students will be coming back to the center in a few weeks. I'm planning our first metals show. Our first workshop has already been scheduled.

I've been in one big transition since before the move north. My life for the past few months has pretty much revolved around my job and moving and my family. I've been building a studio and a program from scratch, without much of a map. There are other centers similar to ours, all modeled off the original center in Pittsburgh. All the centers provide job training for adults and an after school and summer arts program for the high school students. We are the first center with a Metal Arts Program. We are the only center with a Metal Arts program. I have learned a lot. I am learning still.

I'm trying to get back to regular blogging, figuring that this step, the first step after such a long hiatus, would be the hardest. I finally feel ready to resume my regular practices of reading, writing and making. Or at least I'm ready to resume my practice at practicing these things. I'm sorry I don't have much art to show you. I've been too busy building this:
