Book Break

Between Sieraad and the rapidly ending semester, I'm feeling quite spent. I decided to allow myself a break from the studio for a bit, probably until after the new year. This is sort of a fictitious break, since I plan on just refocusing my creative energy on quieter things like stitching and book making (and, ok, a few Christmas things of the metal variety).

The patterns for the paper come from Alabama Chanin, stenciled on and painted in gouache, and then stitched with embroidery floss. I got some lovely papers in Amsterdam (Italian and Japanese) that I'm also looking forward to using.

The image below is a piece of scrap steel from the welding department at one of schools where I teach. A college of mine has been raiding their fascinating scraps to turn into sculpture and passed this piece on to me when I said I'd love to make a book out of it. I just haven't quite figured out what that looks like yet.

Thanks for reading. I'm trying to get back to more regular blogging in the future.
