Process Shot of the Week

We're casting in my Metals II class, and since we don't have lost wax casting equipment yet, I've gotten to experiment with some low tech casting techniques I haven't tried before. We've done cuttlefish casting, water casting and broom casting. It's been fun to play with a process with immediate results after the long slog of cloisonne. (I still love cloisonne, it just felt like a slog because of all the weather set backs).

After I finished up a second set of wiener dogs, I decided to do something with some of my silver water castings, and came up with this pendant. I think its the most "smithy" piece I've made in quite some time. I don't love it, but I enjoyed flexing some of those skills I don't get to use so often.

I'm hoping to complete the assignment I gave my students so stay tuned for more casting adventures!
